A security officer and a customer of a bank helped capture a suspected bank robber in Hemet on Wednesday morning.
Hemet police say that the Citibank security guard and a civilian tackled a robbery suspect in the bank’s parking lot on West Florida Avenue on Wednesday morning, Dec. 5.
Fortunately for the two people who tackled the suspect, she was not armed, according to Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart.
He said the robber walked into the bank about 9:30 a.m. and presented a note to a teller demanding money. It was not clear whether or how much money the robber obtained, he said.
As the robber was leaving, the security officer and the civilian tackled her and held on until police arrived.
Police have taken Lekeita Smith, 28, of Hemet, into custody on suspicion of bank robbery.
“Right place, right time,” said Alex Garcia, the bank security officer. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
