The video of a local mall security guard shooting a woman with a stun gun has gained more than just thousands of online looks.
In a matter of days, an online account set up by a stranger raised about $23,000 to help Darien Long fight crime.
Long has worked security at Metro Mall in downtown Atlanta for about a year.
Long told CBS Atlanta News when he started posting videos to the web he hoped it would get the attention of the city and bring more awareness to crime in the area.
"It was supposed to be a tool to help pressure the city. And it just got out of hand," said Long. "The story started to not be about downtown Atlanta and what's going on here."
Long said he asked that the account be shut down just a few days ago.
He said he was given the money but hasn't had to use it just yet.
Companies are donating equipment to him, like a new camera that's attached to his cap and a new stun gun.
"The camera and the taser are the ones that are the most effective," said Long.
Not everyone is singing Long's praises.
"He's wrong. I don't like him. I don't ever go near that mall period, no more," said Debra Dunbar.
Dunbar told CBS Atlanta News she was shot with a stun gun by the security guard as she was being escorted out of the mall.
"Yes, I spit on him after he hit me in the head. He's a man. I know I can't beat a man. But when he punched me in the back of my head, yes I did spit on him. I told the police I spit on him. I feel like both of us should have went to jail," said Dunbar.
Dunbar said she was arrested for spitting and will fight the charges against her.
Meanwhile, Long said he received the money raised. And he's getting lots of offers from reality show producers.
