FREDERICK, Md. Feb 7 2013 -- Frederick police and Arlington police are now working together after thieves robbed jewelry stores in both jurisdictions in two days.
On Monday, four people robbed the Zales store inside the Pentagon City Mall in Arlington, Va. on Monday. The store's surveillance footage captured four people walking into the jewelry store around 11 a.m. One suspect then pulled out a hammer and struck a reinforced glass jewelry case 20 times before it cracked open. The suspects then grabbed the jewelry and ran out.

"This is very bold behavior" said Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for Arlington County Police. "It was a crowded mall in broad daylight! This is something we haven't seen in Arlington for a while."

No one was hurt. Police say the suspects told the store's two employees to get out when they ran in. They are believed to have fled the scene in a red sedan after driving through the parking garage's mechanical gates.

The thieves got away with 27 rings worth around $128,000.

"They could be trying to peddle these rings for a profit," said Sternbeck. "Right now, we do not have any leads. We're asking for the public's assistance in identifying the individuals that we show in the surveillance video."

If you saw anything suspicious, call Arlington County Police at 703-558-2222.
