California prison riot leaves 11 inmates injured www.privateofficer.com


FOLSOM,Calif.Sept 20 2012 – A riot at a Californiastate prison on Wednesday left 11 inmates hospitalized, including one who wasshot by officers, officials said.Thedisturbance at the California State Prison, Sacramento in Folsom involved an unknownnumber of inmates, officials said. It broke out in a yard at themaximum-security facility shortly after 11 a.m.Inaddition to the inmate who was shot, at least 10 were either stabbed or slashedduring the incident. Their conditions have not been released.Noother injuries have been reported.Itis at least the second known incident within a year at the prison commonlyknown as New Folsom, located 20 miles east of Sacramento.Eleveninmates were hospitalized -- including one shot by officers -- after a riotthat involved 150 inmates in December. One officer was injured during theincident.Theprison opened in 1986 next door to the much older Folsom State Prison, andholds about 2,800 inmates. The fight was in the exercise yard of a maximumsecurity housing unit.Thesame prison was the scene of a riot in May, 2011, that sent six inmates tooutside hospitals, two with serious injuries.
