Minister Michael Whitsey indicted on money laundering-drug charges www.privateofficer.com


MURFREESBORO, Tenn. Sept 22 2012A Middle Tennessee pastor is facing 10 federal charges tiedto the alleged sale of illegal drugs.
The United States attorney's office secured a 10 countgrand jury indictment against Michael Whitsey.
Whitsey, who lists his title as apostle, leads the Abundant LifeChristian Centerin Murfreesboro.
The indictment alleges Whitsey made $375,000 through thesale of narcotics and then deposited the money in various accounts between Mayand December of 2008.
Whitsey has not been arrested for the charges yet.
Attempts to reach Whitsey were unsuccessful.
A member of the church, who would not identify himself, saidthe church would not comment when Nashville'sNews 2 went to the Abundant Life ChristianCenter in Murfreesboro, Thursday.
According to the Abundant Life Christian Center Web siteWhitsey is scheduled to speak in Chicagoon Friday and Saturday.
The U.S. Attorney's office also did not respond to Nashville's News 2 forcomment.
In the federal indictment prosecutors said Whitsey andothers conspired to possess narcotics with intent to distribute. The conspiracygenerated $375,000, according to the indictment.
Prosecutors allege Whitsey then laundered the money throughseveral bank accounts.
The indictment lists nine deposits of various amounts todifferent accounts between May 2008 and December 2008. The nine transactionsadd up to $375,000.
He is charged with nine counts of money laundering inconnection with the deposits.
In addition to the money laundering charges the U.S.Attorney is asking a judge to seize money and all property obtained with themoney in question.
That includes property purchased in RutherfordCounty for Abundant Life Christian Center.
Whitsey sparked controversy in July when the Antioch location of thechurch abruptly closed. Members learned later that Whitsey filed for bankruptcyon behalf of the church in June 2011.
According to bankruptcy filings the church owed more than$41,000 in unpaid rent, $27,000 to the IRS in payroll taxes in 2010 and morethan $7,800 in property taxes to Rutherford County.
Federal officials said Whitsey would make an initialappearance after his arrest. There has been no date set for that appearance.
