South Carolina Supreme Court hears sex offenders case on lifetime monitoring www.privateofficer.com

COLUMBIA, SC Sept 19 2012 (AP) - The South Carolina Supreme Court isrehearing the case of a sex offender who says lifetime satellite monitoring ofsome sex offenders is too harsh a punishment.The justices ruled against Jennifer Dykes in May, but haveagreed to revisit their ruling with arguments Tuesday.Dykes was ruled to be a sex offender after she was convictedof a lewd act on a child charge stemming from her relationship with a14-year-old girl in Greenville County several years ago.She was found to be at low risk to abuse a child again.But after a probation violation, Dykes was ordered to havelifetime monitoring.Dykes says her constitutional rights are being violatedbecause she had not been allowed to appeal the decision.
